Younger users are finding it easier to access OnlyFans content and online adult jobs

Fenix International Limited, the company behind OnlyFans, has been ordered to pay a $1.4 million penalty by the communications regulator Ofcom for not supplying adequate information about the platform’s age-checking system.

As a result, it is possible that creators doing OnlyFans adult jobs may be followed by audiences younger than intended.

The fine was initially set higher but was cut by 30 percent due to the company’s cooperation with investigators.

The company acknowledged that it provided late and inaccurate responses to questions related to online adult jobs.

In June 2022 and again in 2023, Ofcom sought detailed explanations from Fenix International, which runs a subscription platform widely used by sex workers and webcam creators, about how its age-verification process functions.

At the time, the company said its facial recognition tool granted access only to people aged 23 and older.

It later came to light that this threshold had already been lowered to 20 in November 2021.

According to the regulator, the company did not disclose this change until January 2024, after which the setting was adjusted several times in quick succession: first raised back to 23, then reduced to 21.

Suzanne Cater, a senior official at Ofcom, stressed that platforms are legally required to provide accurate, timely information.

She added that similar erotic websites will remain under close supervision, and significant penalties will be imposed when necessary.

At the same time, it’s important to remember that the adult platform represents a major opportunity for OnlyFans creators:
